SKILLS

  • Tracking by scent, sight, or sound.
  • Guide: Teddy has an excellent memory for direction, if he makes a trip once he can retrace his step backwards or forwards almost without fail.
  • Stealth: Teddy's entire life has been one long, unending training to craft him into the perfect spy and messenger, capable of making himself nearly invisible by altering his gait, posture, footfalls, or masking his tracks and scent.
  • Linguistics: While he has poor social skills, Teddy is a keen observer and learns quickly through observation. He spends much of his time laying under tables in taverns, listening to stories and vocal cues and familiarizing himself with whatever information he can glean before he is found to be ownerless and ushered out of the establishment.
  • Venom and poison tolerance: As a member of an assassin guild, Teddy was forced to undergo rigorous and painful training to build up a tolerance to common venoms and poisons in Idan.

  • ABILITIES

  • Enhanced sense of smell and hearing in canine form
  • Enhanced strength in both forms. As a canine he can easly carry an adult male on his back. In human form he can carry an adult male over his shoulder without losing his stride.
  • Shapeshifter: Teddy can shift between forms with ease.

  • APPEARANCE

As a human Teddy is average height, thin, and carries himself in a manner that suggests he is no one and wants no one to notice him. His clothing is ragged and over-sized, his face is usually poorly shaven or unshaven with rough stubble, and his hair and clothing are often dusty with dirt. The hunch of his shoulders and tendency to focus on his hands rather than make eye contact suggests a false lack of confidence that does not match his voice. When he speaks, his voice is warm, confident and assertive with a slightly rough quality to it. His eyes are dark and intense and his focus matches. When challenged or threatened his lips curl to show teeth but he otherwise does not appear to tense.

Teddy's secondary form has become his primary form thanks to the way he was raised. He feels much more at home in his canine body. His appearance resembles a dutch shepherd, slightly larger than a gray wolf in size. He wears no collar and his mottled sable coat is usually covered with a thin layer of dust and dirt from his life typically spent on the streets. He walks with purpose on silent paws, traveling through buildings, streets, and wilderness alike with a sure-footed silent step and a presence surprisingly inconspicuous despite his size. His eyes share the same intensity as his human form and he masks his voice with a distinctive growl on the very unlikely occasion he gives himself away by speaking. He is covered in numerous scars, most of which are hidden by his fur unless he is closely inspected. The most prominent scars are a large slash down his back left leg and a much smaller one along his left shoulder blade. Both appear to be from injuries that healed many years ago.

    PERSONALITY

Stubborn/Arrogant - Teddy is self-assured and confident in himself and his abilities. When he encounters a problem or puzzle, he will obsessively attempt to locate a solution until he can manage to solve it or until exhaustion forces him to stop. He does not handle failure well, becoming frustrated and irritable when he can't find a solution.

Guardian - He has a learned desire to defend and protect people. He does not recognize this impulse as one that was forcibly engrained in him and considers it a part of his own personal code. It is difficult for him to resist the impulse. If he sees a person in danger, he will put his safety on the line to protect them.

Shadow - Teddy has been trained all his life to be invisible, the less he was noticed the better he was at blending in and doing his job. As a result, he tends to fade into the background and try not to be noticed by default, seeing himself as a shadow observer rather than a participant in the world around him.

Naive/Sheltered - Teddy was raised in an isolating environment, kept from taking his human form anywhere beyond the assassin camp he was raised in. As such, most of his communication and social skills are limited and were largely learned through interacting with a world that believed he was a stray dog. He was only taught skills and information that was deemed necessary for him to assist the camp. There is much about the world, himself, and life in Idan that Teddy still does not know. His knowledge is limited to things within his necessary skillsets: Stealth, tracking, travel, shadowing, and gathering resources for the camp's survival. He knows how to survive, but communication and social skills are not his forte.

Enemy of Animals - Teddy has a strong predatory drive toward other animals and a fierce rivalry toward other canines. He does not play well with other creatures, having been attacked many times on the streets by other dogs and animals. He is a skilled hunter and does not feel a kinship with most other animals.

Serious Customer - Teddy has never been allowed leisure time for anything other than sleeping or eating. Training is the only 'leisure' he has ever known and as a result, he has a rather serious demeanor and outlook on life. He understands sarcasm and humor but still struggles with the concept of fun.

Abandonment Issues - Teddy is an orphan and has been reminded of it all his life. The assassins that took him in were never his family or friends, they were merely the people he worked for who provided him with training and the basic necessities of life. At the end of his life, they abandoned him as well, leaving him to die. As a result, Teddy has a strong fear of people leaving him that, rather than encouraging him to keep people at a distance, makes him crave and cling to bonds with fierce determination.

    SUMMARIZED HISTORY

Teddy was kidnapped from the temple steps he had been left on by a spy who was part of an underground group. He was raised by a group of black market spies and mercenaries for hire rather than temple priests. They used his abilities as a shiftling to gather intel and get into places they could not, taking advantage of his harmless appearance as a young pup. Later when he aged and his form grew more intimidating he was trained to guard and attack anyone who approached their camp or hideout. His entire purpose was to be a ghost, invisible and unknown to anyone but the band of mercs and spies who raised him. As a result he could often be seen around the city as a dog but almost never took his main form outside of their camps. When he was captured during the war they abandoned him and left him for dead

His life of relatively slim social and communication skill building beyond the small band of mercenaries he lived with has left him uncertain of how to act around people. He has abandonment issues from his parents giving him up and from the betrayal of the mercenaries who left him to die in captivity. He still sees himself as a tool to be utilized more than an individual and is more comfortable in his second form as a result of how much of his life has been spent in it.

More than anything he yearns to belong somewhere and to have a purpose worth living for.
